There's a fly in the ointment
of webProg3
But we now have a cure for it!
Take for example the Contents page of this very section of the site:
This links list is easy enough to produce, but what happens when you need to re-edit it?
You have to use the Rich Text Editor, and the first thing it does is to remove all the links!
When only a few links are involved, it doesn't matter too much: they can easily be set up again using the Link Editor afterwards. But this is a long list, and re-introducing all those links again is nothing but a pain in the ar........m! I know, because I have had to do it many times.
Batman didn't come to the rescue, so I had to sweat my guts out to find a solution. Although there was quite a lot of work involved, it turned out to be fun, very different to the reform of the Rich Text Editor recently, which left me traumatised and exhausted!
The idea of this utility app is to generate the coding required for a link list widget based on the raw data you provide it with. The data can be typed or uploaded from a text file. If you provide it with the coding of an existing link-list widget, the raw data needed for re-generation will be extracted. That's in "Module 1" that produces a vanilla link list. In "Module 2" of the app, you can tailor the appearance of the widget and save it to file. The new widget can then be copied from your file into a webProg3 Standard script and subsequently friendified if required, in the normal manner.
When, later on, you need to extend, reduce, or modify your link-list widget, you just need to upload the raw data file (or rich widget) you saved previously in order to generate a new version.
Describing it like this is a bit abstract, so if you want a clearer idea of how the Utility works, have a look at the app's HELP (see the icon on the left here). It's really much simpler than it might seem initially..

The Link List Generator provides you with a facility which hitherto has not been available in webProg3. You are able to specify "line-height" in the CSS, which refers to the size of the space between lines of text. WP3's scripts accept this addition with no trouble, but if you attempt to friendify a script that contains a link list generated by this Utility, the routine will CRASH and make a mess of the HTML. This has, of course, been fixed, but in order to avoid trouble it is necessary to EMPTY THE WEBPROG3 SITE CACHE. You only need to do this once, and exact details of how to do it are provided below.
EMPTYING THE WEBPROG3 SITE CACHE
In the Firefox menu, select "Settings" and then "Privacy & Security".
From there, scroll down to find "Manage browsing data".
Type in "webprog3" and select the site name below.
Then click on "Remove Selected" and "Save Changes".
Close the settings tab.
Navigate to the webprog3 website if you are not there already, and refresh your browser. Run the Main Editor.
The grid will probably not appear as usual;
No problem.
Click on the GRID button at the top of the screen.
Change the "NaN" to the value of the scroll (grid height) you want to work with (e.g. 5000, 10000, or whatever), and you are done.
